Google Street View standalone app to cease operations in 2023

Google Street View

The Google Street View app for Android and iOS will stop operating early next year,

according to a November 2 report from IT House, and it will be taken down from the app

store shortly after. A Google representative stated that the app would be discontinued starting in March

2023.

This is a dedicated Street View app on Android and iPhone that allows users to use Google's services to get a 360-degree view around the world. It's important to note that the feature won't be removed from the standard Google Maps app.

IT House has learned that the web version of the Google Street View application will continue to be \

retained, so users can still upload images and continue to browse Street View in Google Maps.

The most recent version of the program, 2.0.0.484371618, contained a number of messages that weren't

yet enabled, and it was in this version that shutdown notifications were first discovered. When activated,

the notifications warned of an impending closure, and Google later verified the changes.

Street View photo pathways, a feature that was only introduced last year, will likewise be eliminated when

the Google Street View app is discontinued. This enables users to add pictures for locations not yet

covered by Street View using their own 2D photos. The images will then be joined together to cover areas

that Google Camera was unable to photograph. However, users of Google Maps can still browse older

photo trails.
