The FIFA World Cup balls are already customarily replaced with each new tournament. And  while up until that point the emphasis had been on design, the new Adidas Al Rihla, which is  Arabic for "The Journey," took one step further and will be the first "smart" and electronic version to compete. This is so that the ball's features can cooperate with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR)

Technologies for World Cup Balls

The Adidas Al Rihla was created with a textured polyurethane cover and 20 buds (a technology

known as Speedshell that claims to improve aerodynamic performance), as well as a patented

CTR-Core core that offers "game faster and more accurate" in addition to enhancing stability

during kicks, for example. The design and colors of the shoe also pay homage to Qatari culture.

A motion sensor with a 500 Hz inertial measurement unit (IMU) that can determine placement in

the field 500 times per second will also be included. The automatic marking of offsides will

depend on this functionality to perform well and to offer information in real-time, which will aid

referees in making judgment calls during games.

"This authentic Adidas ball is impressive in terms of quality and toughness. The world's best

athletes, who will compete in Qatar on the most esteemed venues, will be thrilled by it, as will

fans everywhere, according to FIFA Marketing Director Jean-François Pathy. This soccer ball is

anticipated to be the fastest, most stable, and most accurate option ever made, according to the manufacturer.

Environmental concerns

Concerns exist outside of the field as well, such as the use of water-based paints and glues to

lessen the environmental toll of manufacture, and during the presentation, Adidas Al Rihla

traveled to 10 different cities to support social activities. Last but not least, this will be the first

World Cup ball to collect money for charitable causes; 1% of sales will be donated to the NGO

Common Goal.
