In light of Iran's "support for Russia" and its "suppression" of domestic protests, the European Union is prepared to impose a new set of sanctions on it on Monday.

The fresh sanctions against Iran will be discussed in this context by the foreign ministers of the European Union as a result of the crackdown on protests that broke out following the death of Mahsa Amini by the morality police.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrieleus Landsbergis stated during a visit to Berlin that "the countries of Europe would suggest other lists that can be put to the sanctions list."

In addition to Iran's support for Russia in the Ukraine war and human rights abuses in Iranian towns, he noted, "the new sanctions will include Iran's participation in those acts."

The morality police and 11 high-ranking officials are among the targets of the latest sanctions package, which the European ambassador in Brussels stated: "aims to add roughly 30 names to people and businesses previously targeted by the European Union, with sanctions in mid-October."

The ministers will also discuss drone supplies from Iran to Russia during the meeting, a senior European official noted.

The person noted that "Europe is also working to verify reports that Iran has sent missiles to Russia for use in Ukraine, and if this turns out to be true, steps will be taken in the form of sanctions."

Iran has acknowledged providing Russia with drones before the military operation in Ukraine at the end of February, despite constantly disputing Kiev's and its Western partners' claims to the contrary.
